EMEA Sovereignty Technology Venture Capital

Backing the technologies that give nations and critical industries greater control.

Amena Ventures invests in EMEA-based early-stage technology companies building the systems that help countries, institutions and critical industries sense, protect, operate and control strategic assets.

Sovereignty technology is not a narrow defence category. It is a broad EMEA opportunity focused on the infrastructure, software and autonomous systems that preserve control over assets, data, communications, energy, logistics, borders, industrial operations and digital infrastructure.

Our thesis

Sovereignty is the ability to remain operational, secure and independent when conditions change.

It means controlling the sensing infrastructure, the digital layer that runs critical assets and the systems that protect them from disruption, dependency or unauthorised access.

01

A backbone for defence resilience.

Sovereignty technologies give nations and institutions the operational foundations to detect, decide, communicate, move and respond with greater confidence.

02

A broad market, not a narrow vertical.

The same control technologies apply across defence, energy, logistics, maritime, aerospace, industry, telecom, cybersecurity, AI and critical infrastructure.

03

Control over assets and the systems that run them.

The opportunity sits at the intersection of physical infrastructure, sensing, autonomy, secure communications and the software layer that coordinates operations.

04

Strategic relevance with commercial scale.

We invest where national or institutional relevance meets large, scalable markets and urgent customer pain.

Where we invest

Critical technology that can become essential infrastructure

We back product-led EMEA companies building critical technology that can become essential infrastructure for a more uncertain world.

Autonomous systems

Aerial, maritime and ground autonomy

Drones, robotics and autonomous vehicles that extend operational reach, reduce human exposure and create real-time advantage across defence, logistics, inspection, maritime and industrial environments.

Cybersecurity

Digital resilience for critical systems

Technologies that protect software, data, networks and infrastructure from unauthorised access, manipulation, disruption or dependency.

Space + communications

Trusted access and secure connectivity

Space-based connectivity, sensing, communications infrastructure and networks that reduce dependency and expand reliable access to data.

Energy + infrastructure

Resilience for strategic assets

Technologies that strengthen the monitoring, control and operational continuity of energy systems, fibre networks and other critical infrastructure.

AI + sensing

The intelligence layer for physical operations

Machine intelligence, multispectral imaging, edge sensing and decision software that turn complex environments into trusted operational insight.

IoT + edge systems

Distributed control in real time

Connected devices, industrial IoT and edge infrastructure that allow operators to monitor, automate and protect distributed assets.

The bigger market

Sovereignty technology cuts across large commercial and strategic markets

The companies we back may serve defence, government or critical infrastructure customers, but they are not limited to those markets. Many of the strongest sovereignty technologies also scale into industrial, logistics, energy, aerospace, maritime, telecommunications and enterprise markets.

Our stage

From first thesis to early scale

Amena partners with EMEA founders from pre-seed to Series A - entering as early as the founding team and thesis stage, before the prototype and before the market is obvious.

We enter at pre-seed. We partner from day one, when the company may be little more than a committed founding team and a well-argued thesis. From there we help shape the product, prove the technology, validate the market, win the first customers and prepare the company for institutional capital across EMEA and beyond.

  1. Pre-seedWe enter here · founder + thesis
  2. SeedTech + pilots
  3. BridgeMarket proof
  4. Series AInitial scale
  1. 01

    Shape the thesis.

Pressure-test the problem, the wedge, the roadmap and the first version of the product before a line of code or hardware is committed.

  2. 02

    Prove the technology.

Support product direction, technical credibility, proof points and the bridge from prototype to deployable solution.

  3. 03

    Prove the market.

Define priority use cases, customer segments, buyer pathways, pilots, pricing and commercial validation.

  4. 04

    Support the initial scale-up.

Help founders build investor materials, financial planning, governance, talent, partnerships and go-to-market discipline.

  5. 05

    Build strategic credibility.

Position the company for customers and investors who care about resilience, trust, control and long-term independence.

For founders

What we look for

We take on very few companies. If your venture fits the profile below, send us a brief - every serious application gets a considered answer.

Stage

Pre-seed to Series A

At pre-seed, a committed founding team and a well-argued thesis are enough to start the conversation - a prototype is not required. By seed we expect a demonstrable product; by Series A, early commercial traction.

Product

Products, not services

Hardware, software or both - we back products that scale with strong economies, not consulting or service businesses.

Technology

In-house, defensible technology

You control your core technology and develop it internally, with a credible path to patents or hard-to-replicate capability.

Team

Committed, sector-experienced founders

You understand the market you are selling into, and the venture comes first - full-time, or with a clear path to full-time at pre-seed.

Geography

Built from EMEA, selling worldwide

Founders based in Europe, the Middle East or Africa, building products for global strategic and commercial markets.

Scale

Large markets, fast paths to market

Technologies with a short time to market and room to compound: urgent customer pain today, essential infrastructure tomorrow.

Your brief

What to include when you write to us

  1. What is the target market?
  2. What makes your technology different?
  3. Who is on the team, and what is their commitment to the project?
  4. How far along are you?
  5. What do you need to reach the next stage?

Entrepreneurs backing entrepreneurs

We bring founder empathy, not only investor discipline

Amena is built by people with an entrepreneurial background. We understand the messy early stage: unfinished products, uncertain markets, first customers, hiring constraints, fundraising pressure and the need to move before everything is proven. Because we have built and scaled ventures ourselves, we know that early-stage companies need more than capital. They need practical judgement, commercial focus, credibility with customers, fundraising preparation and help turning technical ambition into a company that can scale.

EMEA founder fit
Local insight with international ambitionWe focus on founders from Europe, the Middle East and Africa who are building strategic technologies with the potential to serve customers across borders.
How we help
From founder reality to investable companyWe help founders prioritize the use cases, pilots, partnerships, hiring and capital strategy that matter most in the first phases of company building.
Founder promise
Early conviction, hands-on supportWe are comfortable backing teams before the market is fully obvious, when deep understanding and active support can make the biggest difference.
